BPM, beat duration and video frames

At 120 BPM, there are 2 beats per second (2 Hz), 7,200 beats per hour and 500 ms per beat. Here Hz describes the beat repetition rate, not the pitch of an audio note.

Video FPS is a separate input. At 30 FPS and 120 BPM, one beat spans 15 frames. Changing the FPS changes the frames-per-beat result; BPM does not determine the video frame rate.

FAQ

Why do values slightly differ from my plugin?⌄

Plugins use different rounding. Keep 1–2 decimals and adjust by ear.

What’s the intuition between Hz and BPM?⌄

1 Hz is once per second; BPM is beats per minute. Both are frequency—just different time bases.
